Primary Hyperparathyroidism ΓÇô Clinical Features (2)
In the past, primary hyperparathyroidism was characterised by presentation with recurrent renal stones due to hypercalciuria, associated with polyuria that occurred as a result of loss of the concentrating ability of the kidney.
Some patients develop a form of muscle weakness, and many patients complain of anorexia, nausea and vomiting due to hypercalcaemia, associated with constipation. Acute pancreatitis is seen in some patients, and it has long been debated whether or not the disease is associated with peptic ulceration and with hypertension.
